Designed for medical and dental practitioners committed to providing state of the art Masseter tox treatment for both cosmetic and therapeutic outcomes, this course will expand your knowledge and help you provide safe, effective, evidence-based treatment. The course includes an in-depth Masseter anatomy review, when tox is and isn’t indicated, how many units to use, where to inject and how to avoid adverse events.
Targeted to clinicians who prioritize patient safety and efficacy, this course equips you with the tools needed to feel confident injecting the Masseter.
Limited knowledge in the temporomandibular joint? You’ll also learn how to do a TMJ evaluation prior to delivering tox – a standard of care requirement. (course includes a downloadable patient TMJ assessment form)
Course Objectives:
At the end of the course practitioners should be able to:
Identify the evidence-based indications for Masseter Tox treatments
List contraindications for using tox in the Masseter
Discuss the optimum dose, injection location and depth
This module introduces the evidence for use of botulinum toxin (Tox) in the management of masseter hypertrophy and parafunction. The discussion includes evidence supporting its effectiveness in reducing muscle size, bite force, and parafunctional habits like bruxism. We'll review recent masseter treatment clinical data, insights into pain management, and the importance of tailored approaches when considering potential temporalis involvement in cases of severe bruxism.
This module covers the clinical indications, guidelines, and contraindications for using botulinum toxin (TOX) in treating masseter hypertrophy and parafunction. It outlines the preliminary assessments, including evaluating for TMJ disc issues, conservative approaches, and considering physical therapy. The module also highlights the need for regular reassessment to monitor efficacy and safety.
This module covers bruxism and hypertrophy and the levels of evidence supporting the use of tox for these indications
Finally understand Masseter Anatomy! In addition to finally understanding the anatomy of the Masseter, you'll see what structures can be impacted by Tox when the injection site is not well placed.
This module explores best practices for dosing and injection site techniques for Masseteric tox treatment. Techniques for accurate injection placement, including anatomical markers to locate the optimal “sweet spot” and strategies to prevent trauma and minimize adverse effects, are detailed. Additional considerations, such as appropriate syringe and needle size, gender-based dosing variations, and common side effects like bruising, asymmetry, and paradoxical bulging, are also covered, providing a comprehensive approach to safe and effective treatment.
This segment focuses on the potential side effects and adverse events related to Tox injections for masseter treatment. It covers common side effects and those that are not as common, but are more. Proper terminology, patient communication, and knowing when to refer cases to TMJ specialists are highlighted for safe practice.
This final segment focuses on essential pre-treatment evaluations that represent the standard of care before administering Tox for masseter hypertrophy (or Parafunction). Targeted to those in medicine and dentistry who do not regularly treat TMJ problems.
